Typewriter Series #2605 by Tyler Knott Gregson

.

Not much for fitting into now,

antique man on brand new streets,

feet slow and head that stayed back.

This heart is clockwork,

but the old kind, dim light and

microscope pieced, tiny cogs

into tiny spaces,

sometimes I feel they don’t make them

the way they used to anymore.

They all say that, I am guessing,

all that have come before, lived through

and survived, each generation

casting backwards glances at the one

they’re being replaced by,

but maybe not. They don’t make them

this way anymore.

.

Antique soul with analog parts,

if you listen in you’ll hear them,

stuttering but steady on,

and it’s all too fast, and I

just cannot catch up.

.

I sit and stare out the window

as birds and squirrels

take their turns

at the feeder.
