Been thinking about what this society values in a person lately, what we see fit to call worthy, beautiful, attractive. Creams sold to erase wrinkles, and all evidence of laughter goes with em. Botox injections, liposuction, new noses, cheek sculpting, fat freezing, billion dollar cosmetic industries. Spanx and T-shirt’s with fake muscles sewn in, calf implants, boob jobs, and ass lifts. All this runaround to defy time, to defy ourselves and show the world that we match what we think they think is beautiful. That we fit in. Where’s the rust of us? Where’s the time-earned transformation? Where’s the self-love and self-interest and falling head over heels for the people we already are? Ten billion things matter more than the skin we wear, ten billion more than the way we dress, do our hair. Let us love who we are, every wrinkle and line, every freckle and shape. It’s time.
