Enough luck
and we’re a living thing,
pulse of blood or patience
of photosynthesis,
enough time
and we call it a life,
wrinkles on flesh
or rings around rings
that tell our story.  

Somewhere between them,
scars stay,
what we’ve endured
and incorporated into ourselves,
what we’ve seen
a line amongst lines,
lost to everyone
but us.
