One day we’ll be ghosts
and we’ll be written about
like the ghosts that we became.  
Do you remember, they’ll say
and some story will fall out,
half true and sprawling,
details fuzzy but told with enough
enthusiasm that it doesn’t matter,
because sometimes
it’s enough just to be remembered
at all.  
Ghosts they’ll become too
and that cycle will continue,
phantoms to come spinning yarns
about phantoms long gone,
we’re all just smoke and dust
and breeze and wingbeat,
gone in a whisper
from a voice we hardly
knew.
