Notre Dame on fire

I was planning to post today about last night’s Game of Thrones and the battle of Barnet, which took place on April 14, 1471. But when I got home, I checked my email and there was one from a friend, alerting me that Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris is on fire. This is truly heartbreaking. Notre Dame is one of my favorite cathedrals and I cannot imagine Paris without it. The spire has already collapsed. This is a terrible blow to those who love history and to people of faith. Please pray that some of it can be saved.

Wanda My heart is broken. And to have this happen during Holy Week is more devastating.

Sharon So many of us share your grieving, Wanda. A terrible loss to France and to the world. Anyone who's visited Paris must feel stricken tonight and those who've not visited the city must feel bereft, for it will take years to rebuild and even then, it won't be the same. At least one of the famed Rose Windows was lost and they are irreplaceable.

Chris I cry with the people of Paris.

Barbara I applaud the people in Paris who helped save so much artwork during the fire. Much was lost, but much was saved, thanks to them!

Sharon Some good might come from this tragedy. Other historical sites might reconsider their own plans for protecting cathedrals and churches and museums.
