Slow and Steady
I’ve been thinking about something my Sensei said, “Slow is smooth; smooth is fast.”
Smooth is akin to quality. There is no point rushing through a writing project just to complete it. Unless there is a firm deadline and you gotta deliver, of course. But if you have the option, take the time to make it as good as you can with your current skill level.
I’m taking my time a lot more lately on some of my goals. In between, I’m actually making time for rest and relaxation. Actual relaxation where I’m not writing while watching TV for example. I feel like I haven’t gotten proper sleep in months, so I’m catching up there too while I can.
My decluttering efforts are happening slowly, but I think it’s for the best. I’m aiming to get to a place where I can come home and not see piles of work everywhere. I don’t know what it’s like to have little to do once the work day is over, but I want to have calmer weeks. Then I can spend some of it writing and some of it just enjoying something like an album.
I’m not in a hurry to get some things done like removing the tarp from my living room floor because my tax return is going to allow me to pay off a good chunk of debt and afford to get a dresser from IKEA. I’m planning to get an untreated pine one, which I have plans to paint and the living room is really the only place for me to do that. Yes, another project, but this one will help me with my decluttering efforts. For years now, I’ve been using plastic craft towers as dressers because that was what was in my budget range at the time. At the same time, I didn’t know what I wanted either.

*Not originally part of my goals for this week, but the condo folks were breaking into the neighbour’s place for failing to give them a key after asking for one for years now. They needed to finish installing new windows in all the units. He’ll have to ask them for the key to his unit now. I’ve seen him once in six years despite working from home on many occasions. Anyway, I didn’t want to open the door to my condo right now for them all to see into mine because between renos, decluttering, and taxes, it’s not at its best.
