Creative Writing Is Not About Writing

John M. Sheehan My greatest inspiration is my relationship with God that allows all my writing to be birth in my spirit (words that have become flesh in my life) that now feeds my heart flowing into my brain that moves my hand to take my words of flesh turning them into words that can be printed.

I do not need much to inspire me to write, from the words I share on Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin, or Academia. It can be just a thought, something from scripture, from nature, from a News headline or that of something my wife may have just said.

Those words form at times a poem or story and other times a book is birth or just words attached to a photo for a Pinteres share, and at times a sermon or teaching lesson is birth producing a video that touches the hearts and soul of mankind worldwide.

Words have to become flesh before they can become ink for others to see.

A creative mind we all have and it needs to feed on the creative and a really cool practice is what is called Experimental Blackout that is merely a little trail that few follow in the exercise of being a creative writer.

Sometimes I will read the bible and do an Experimental Blackout in my mind to see what inspiration may come and I do this not as an exercise but as the Holy Spirit guides so as not to box in or form out something into the 10 steps of creative writing but just to see what God has to say about the matter.

Since I cannot invite you into my mind I will just show you what this may look like on paper; You know " Words have to become flesh before they can become ink for others to see."

You can also find programs that can manipulate random words like this at thedeletionist.com

Psalm 91:: NIV. He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the LORD, "He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust." Surely he will save you from the fowler's snare and from the deadly pestilence.

Now my mind sees it like this---
Psalm 91:: NIV. He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the LORD, "He is my refuge and my fortress , my God, in whom I trust." Surely he will save you from the fowler's snare and from the deadly pestilence.

Father help me with this and bring glory to Your gift of hope in Jesus name.

When the shadows come with a darken chill trapping my hope in this fowler's snare drinking from the cup in the shadows of my fears a pestilence comes not from above till a hope does shine from the Lord above building a fortress in the shelter of love giving me hope in this fowler's snare for though the darkness may come love will be my refuge till the Lord does come.

As you can see not all words need to be used and those used do not have to be in the context of your original source of inspiration as you allow words to become flesh you can tell the world what they mean to you and inspire others in some most amazing ways be they found or created you can make them all your own.

So give it a try today and grab a story from a book, magazine, newspaper, or better yet from the word of God and do a blackout in your head, from your word processor or some program online and get creative. You can even buy a book for a buck at a yard sale, or thrift store with whiteout tape in hand from a page or two begin erasing till a voice says now create and before you know it you will have something to share.
