Book Review: Arcanum Unbounded: The Cosmere Collection by Brandon Sanderson
Published in 2016. In this collection, the author has provided short stories, essays, and novellas about the worlds he’s created to include the Selish System, the Scadrian System, the Taldain System, the Threnodite System, the Drominad System, and the Rosharan System. Sometimes, the main character came from the original book as Kelsier from "Mistborn" makes a return t life, but others are new. In addition, he provides a unique form of magic in every case from a forger to the awesomeness of a Radiant.
If you want to have a panoramic view of the author’s writing, this might be for you. You don’t have to have read his other books. I’ve only read a couple of them. If you have read more than me, it could fill in some blanks or simply it could inspire you to read more.
All of the stories were fascinating. I only wish I had his imagination and his ability to make his fantasies sound so real. I’d love to be able to use metals to fly across the city or change sand into water. One of my favorite characters in the stories was a young girl by the name of Lift. She was a Radiant and was awesome. That was her magic—her awesomeness and it allowed her to slide out of harm or to it if she wanted to. She also became known as Her Pancakeness, because of her love of pancakes. Fun.
It’s not a quick read but it will challenge your imagination. And when I wandered around the library the other day, I found an audio version. I truly enjoyed it.
