Star Wars Republic Commando The Review by Edward Hale

Well, folks, here it is, another review for all our hungry subscribers, this time, I am reviewing the newly released Star Wars Republic Commando for the Xbox One, available on your Xbox Game-pass for free.

Before the Online Sales

The Star Wars Republic Commando title was initially released on the original Xbox back in 2005 and a Microsoft exclusive at that, the second of my reviews as of late to be an Xbox exclusive.

It happened before games decided they needed to be online to make sales. This title was a solo game, allowing you to take control of a squad of elite Clone Commandos and battle your way through numerous battles of the Clone Wars from the Star Wars franchise.

This is one of the instances of a game developer seeing what was going on in other media and deciding to expand upon it, in a good way. It occurred back when the Star Wars franchise wasn’t booming on your mobile device or thrown to the micro-transaction wolves back when these games were good.

The Game

Let’s look at the time frame for a moment, in a matter of 10 years; we had some of the best Star Wars games ever with the likes of Knights of the Old Republic, this game and the Force Unleashed series which debuted on the Xbox 360. It was a good time to be a Star Wars fan, especially if you were a gamer.

All right, so jumping into this review, let’s start with the gameplay. This game is your typical squad-based shooter, allowing you to control all of Delta squad to reach your objectives. You battle many creatures from the movies, as well as the Droid army.

The play happens in the heyday of shooters, meaning they didn’t just reward you for booting the game up, no; your progress’ earning is by your team’s blood, sweat, and tears. It wasn’t an easy game by any means, and it made it all the more worth your time.

You had to get better, or you wouldn’t progress, period. Yes, it had its various difficulty levels, but even on easy, you were fighting through your enemies tooth and nail.

Disney’s Delta Squad

The story is pretty good too. You start the game as an infant in the Clone Tanks. You hear someone talking about how you and your “brothers” are special, that you are to be their greatest secret weapon against the Separatists forces.

You are the leader of Delta Squad, and you and your “brothers” are all parts of a whole. While it’s been a while since I have played this, I do remember the story being awesome, so much so that Disney added it’s canon to the Clone Wars animated series, even having members of Delta Squad show up in the show on more than one occasion.

Disney has seen the responses fans have had for this game, as well as others at the time, and brought them into the fold after they purchased the Star Wars franchise.

They saw what all of us saw, that these games added to the whole picture in so many ways, made you adore the characters they had created as much as anyone you had loved in the films.

Snatch This Game Up

I’m not going to drag out this review any longer than necessary, but I am going to say this much. If you’re a Star Wars fan and you own an Xbox One, you owe it to yourself to snatch this game up.

It’s free, what more do I need to say? It’s a fantastic shooter, an amazing Star Wars game, and above all, worth your time. So, do yourself a favor and check it out.

I have plenty more reviews coming your way, plenty more Star Wars, and even some Star Trek sprinkled in for good measure.

So, two excellent reviews to start, and no telling where I could go for future reviews, only one way to know for sure, and that’s to tune in next time. So, until next time folks, see you in the games.
