What's with the some feminists and the "don't hold the door open for me or be chivalrous" thing? (I'm definitely aware NOT all feminists do this, but a conversation on my dash brought the topic to mind) I mean, I understand that you don't like being treated differently solely because you have a…

I know very few, if any, women who will refuse to have a door held for them. I can not remember the last time I saw this magical woman who goes about refusing to have doors held for her all about the world. I see a damned lot of the opposite of this, actually, people not paying attention when I have my arms full, or when my friend has her stroller with two kids in it and people can't be arsed to open a door. Or when I am having a high pain day and using my cane and people ignore that too.

It doesn't personally bother me at all, unless I am holding a door open and some dude happens along and refuses. THIS is actually something I do see, almost every day that I am out and about. I'll hold the door that I am going in or out of anyhow, and dude will stop, stock still, and insist that I go first. I have actually had men get grumpy with me over the fact that I won't go first. I have been called a bitch and a feminazi over this little tiny gesture.

The problem is that it stems from Chivalry, which, sure, sounds neat and respectful on the surface, but is rooted in the idea that women were fragile and delicate and needed to be protected, so they were treated like fragile property, instead of equal individuals.

So, I guess… excuse me if I don't get over this one thing?

I have NEVER seen this hypothetical feminist who yells at men for holding the door open for her. Ever. But I have had my share of guys who will stop when I hold open the door, even though I have taken a step behind it to hold it open, and therefore it makes no sense for me to step around and enter and he has to swing open the door himself again and he is wasting precious fucking time waiting for me to go inside first. It's kind of aggravating. I wonder if it's a regional thing, though.

**************************

I routinely punch any guy who tries to be nice to me for any reason, and I generally take the opportunity to get the boot in while he's down, just for spite, because that's totally what feminism is, honest, no fooling.

Also, I demand all women get abortions even when they're not pregnant and I insist the government pays for it AND gives the woman a medal. Plus, it would be great if all jobs were given to unqualified women. We demand quotas! We LOVE quotas!

Also, that first post is utter bullshit.

I don't want men holding open doors for women.

I want people holding open doors for people, because feminism is about being decent to each other no matter what your gender identity is. I don't want to be treated as some special fucking snowflake just because I was born with a certain set of chromosomes. I want to be treated as a special snowflake by people who like me for who I am, and I will treat them in kind, no matter what their plumbing looks like.

Sure, but have you ever seen the hypothetical feminist in the original post?
