Another Writer Wednesday Eve!
A few of the blogs I've perused this week:
Once in awhile, I get emails from Gimundo, which claims to be good news only. Mostly, it is. This week, they had a truly inspirational story about a man who learned to read at age 91, and wrote a book at age 98. Now. What are YOU waiting for? If you are reading this, you are already decades ahead of where this debut author was, seven years ago—because the man couldn't read. Go read what he says about his writing experience. "I feel like I've just been born," or something to that effect. Go read it.
Nathan Lowell is not just winning Nanowrimo and then some, he's installed a computer desk on his treadmill. I recommend you listen to his podcast while you read the blog post.
Mark Leslie posted about Thanksgiving dinner, and even though that holiday has come and gone, it's still a good entry. A lot of unusual recipes, and they ALL sound good, no lie. Follow his link to his feature on Paula Deen's site, as well.
Also on the Thanksgiving theme, Little Pickle Press offers a blog about fostering an attitude of gratitude. It's probably a reflection of the frustrations I've been handling personally lately, but I honestly really, really liked this.
Talk Supe Blog (on blogspot), "A blog about the wonderful world of Vampires, Weres, Fae, Sorcery and everything else in between" surprised me by posting an excerpt that they selected from This Brilliant Darkness, as a teaser to my feature on their site coming up on Dec. 1. That was kinda wild, considering it's always been me posting lines or sections of my work, before then. It was a good feeling, though—I'm not complaining. Talk Supe was recommended to me by my #1 fan (who got her Kindle in the mail today, from the Trick or Treat Bash), and I'm so glad she did. It's a great blog! Check out their Girl Crush Monday post from yesterday, and the teaser for This Brilliant Darkness from the day before.
Did you know that Thomas Edison filmed Mark Twain, and put it on Youtube? Well, he did. (Not the youtube part, but that's where you'll find this video.)
Tim put a lot of work into this entry about how he became acquainted with author Anne McCaffrey's work, and the fantasy genre as a whole. Give it a read, would you? And he's been thrilled to see the post shared so widely across Facebook.
I was very happy to have stumbled onto The Happy Booker today. Great review blog for YA paranormal fantasy.
Are you on Goodreads? Vote for your favorite books in their annual awards poll. In particular, check out the covers in YA fantasy, and middle-grade fantasy. It's very telling about the vitality of those genres.
Lastly, are you into the Occupy Wall Street movement? They're calling for submissions. Want to pen a little protest poetry? Here's what to do.
Click the awesome 70s typewriter & owl vignette to catch what was shaking for me on Nanowrimo Day 28, including my latest comic strip.
Check back tomorrow for a Writer Wednesday conversation with David Gaughran, author of Let's Get Digital, and the forthcoming A Storm Hits Valparaiso. I am certain you'll enjoy it.
