In all honesty, I have to agree with you. My mother works at a Christian publishing company as a designer, and I continue to try and read them, but end up dropping them. There is a new book out, though, called 'Cresent Stone' and I would recommend giving it a try. I read the manuscript and it was... okay, but my friends and mother have said that the author really improved it.
