Another Open Mic
The Strange & Unusual Universe of Silver Moon Unicorn
White Lion was napping peacefully as Silver Moon drove the trolley. She had just found another open mic to go to. She just hoped her son would behave during her performance. She didn’t have trouble finding the little coffee house. She had to park in the back of the lot to give other people plenty of space. She turned off the engine and sighed.
White Lion opened his eyes and yawned. “Where are we, Mama?”
“We’re at a coffee house for an open mic.”
“What’s an open mic?”
“It’s an event where I can recite some of my poetry and let people know about my website so that they can buy books from me.”
“Oh!” He jumped up. “I’m ready to go with you!”
“Okay, then. Let’s go out through the porch.” She stood up and grabbed her tablet on the way to the back as White Lion skipped out the door and off the porch. Silver Moon locked the door behind her.
“I see you parked a ways from the coffee house.”
“I had to. The trolley’s too big to park any closer.”
“Oh, okay.” He kept skipping beside her.
Silver Moon opened the door and waited until White Lion stepped inside. He looked all around him. People saw him and exclaimed how cute he was. He smiled and told them, “Hi!”
She went to find the person in charge to let them know she was ready to read some of her short poems.
“Wow! You’re Silver Moon Unicorn?”
“Yeah.” She smiled.
“I’ve heard of you. Of course we’d love to hear your work. Welcome. I take it the tiny neko is with you.”
“He’s my son.” She walked over to White Lion. “Dear, please behave yourself. I will be reading some of my poetry.”
“Okay.”
“We can find a table to sit down at and you can stay there while I read.”
“Sure thing. Can I have something to drink?”
“Okay, dear. Let’s get you something, preferably without caffeine.”
With his drink, he sat down at a table with his mama. He was content for the moment. She was a bit nervous. It still bothered her to read in front of crowds, but she did have to work.
When it came time for her to read, she stood up with her tablet in hand. She walked over to the stage and stood in front of the mic. She began by introducing herself. Some of the audience cheered her. White Lion looked around him and cheered right along with the others. She smiled and read her poems. Many people liked them.
Afterwards, she was holding White Lion’s hand as they walked back to the trolley. It was late and the little neko was sleepy.
