Fear
“I don’t always feel strong, Mike. In fact, most of the time I feel down right scared. I think that’s why I try so hard to be in control of everything,” Karen admitted.
“I think so too. But don’t confuse yourself. Fear is not a sign of weakness, Karen. Fear is just fear. It’s what you do with fear that proves who you are and what you have inside.”
“Are you ever afraid, Mike?”
“A big tough guy like myself,” he grinned, “are you kidding me?”
Karen rolled her eyes.
“In my line of work, yeah, I get scared a lot,” Mike admitted freely, “but I never let it paralyze me. I always use it to drive me to find a productive outlet. It’s not healthy to keep fear all bottled up inside. It just grows into a monster if you do. See, fear is an emotion designed to keep us safe. But once you take a good look at the situation, you may find that the benefits of doing something you are afraid of outweighs the risks involved. In that case, you just have to buck up and get the job done.”
