Indie Books for Kids, Lessons, and a Great Review
There is nothing wrong with a book that contains a lesson. Or a message.
But I do not think every book for kids needs to be a guide for life.
There are many books out now that teach and guide, and hide very important messages in beautiful words and pictures. I don't teach anything in the books I write for kids, and at first I felt a little bad about this. Maybe I should have added something about manners, or being nice to your friends, or even school. But I really didn't want to. I wanted to write stories that kids could get lost in like I remember doing when I was a kid. I wanted kids to be away from their computers and video games. I wanted them to like to read.
Then my book The Moon is No Place for a Ghost was reviewed--by a KID. And he liked it! Jason McKinney's son Christopher reviewed it in Jason's blog. He also said their were lessons in the book--but you would never know it. Whaddya know! I put a lesson in a book by accident and he still liked the book! He liked the book so much he got the other people in his house to read it. And also to use it for a project for school. Huh!
I feel great now. I wrote a book that kids like (well, at least ONE kid likes it) and it has a lesson. I'm thrilled!
A big thanks to Jason and his son Christopher for reviewing my book. See the reveiw below :)
