When the new Secret Six started and I only recognized one of my babies, I was disappointed. Some of it made sense, with such fellows as Bane and Deadshot probably elsewhere in the New 52 Land, but where was Ragdoll? We’d seen him in Batgirl #31. Where was Scandal? The literal heart of the team, the leader the golden child. Or Jeanette, the only level head when shit would hit the fan? It seemed like a Secret Six without these key members.

With each new issue of The Secret Six, it’s become clear that what I always loved about this series wasn’t exclusively the characters. Obviously I adore the characters, so much, and I was over the moon when Scandal Jeanette and ‘Doll returned, but the draw to the series is larger than them.

What makes this series really resonate in my heart is the familial atmosphere of the Six. They’re a family. They care about each other and forgive each other when shit goes wrong. That family bond is why I love The Secret Six.

That family bond is still strong as fuck in the new series. It is just as good. It is wonderful. I don’t miss the old team as much, because this new team is excellent. All their relationships with each other are amazing and strong and unique and always leave me wanting more of everything. More dinner scenes, more walks around the neighborhood, more fights, just because the feelings within each interaction are just, nice. It’s pleasant to experience.

It’s as if the old series never ended. This is just the next chapter. It’s wonderful.
