Cookies

19 Years.

Santiago de Compostella.

I had a choice.

It was not a bad idea.

I left another choice.

We arrived that day by rain.

I moved to the (small) village.

France.

A church and a rooster.

A small path.

A very small path.

One fire. Three people and a baby.

The fire was made in a machine.

The machine for laundry.

Their faces were black, almost brown.

The house(s) were almost gone.

Half way, there.

I started to talk to them

and I was allowed to sit, down.

Our gestures became quiet and silent.

Grandmother offered me her cookie

in plastic with rose sugar.

The second cookie, I rejected but not refused.

There was a silence.

But the fire had become warmer.
