Nanowrimo Day 22
Notable nano:
(Harlow, remarking on Deb) Wildflower, indeed. More like kudzu.
Things I learned today:
Harlow's 7 years older than Deb.
He was there when she was born.
There's a possible twist coming up with his father. I can't reveal it yet because it could be a major spoiler if it all works out.
Not much to share today. I intended to write a scene for a teenage Harlow, and went much further back than that—but it feels exactly right. I think our expectations of romantic love are set much earlier in life than our teen years, anyway. By the time we hit age lucky 13, we're already pretty set in our minds how we're supposed to treat the opposite sex, as well as be treated by.
This is a little wonky for Harlow, as trolls adolesce a lot longer than humans. (Like elephants—the bigger the beast, the long the phase.)
Additionally, his feelings are for a girl who is attracted to other girls. And, it's interspecies. So…yeah. Bit of a hurdle there. Or a series of hurdles. An outright hurdles race, huh?
I ran hurdles in school. Fun stuff, once you get the hang of it. Here's hoping I'm gliding over the top, not doing it this way:
Although, whatever works, man. Whatever works.
