Marian Beaman As I read this reflection, my first thought was physical labor in the tomato fields as a pre-teen. My parents instilled in me a strong work ethic . . . self-care, not so much.

Maybe I'll partially a monastic, living by the labor of my hands even now. Often I think of my kitchen, specifically my counter and stove area, as an altar, a place of sacrifice honoring my family. My computer, a place of story invention, a legacy too.

Tracy Thank you, Marian. I think there are many similarities between Mennonite and Benedictine spirituality; one more thing that makes us kindred spirits!

I love the idea of making work areas into altars. Thank you for that idea. I’m going to borrow it.

Here’s to a 2019 of growing self-care for both of us.
