Wow, thank you so much for sharing this article! I wouldn't necessarily categorize myself as a hoarder, but after my mom passed away 3 years ago my husband and I decided to buy her home. Well meaning siblings thought they really helped clean out the house when they took some of the big objects but that was the easy part. What I was left with were boxes of cords and receipts. Jars of bolts and all of the letters, cards and artwork she had received from her kids and grandkids. After moving in our own stuff, we effectively have 2 full houses in one house, and the effect is traumatizing and overwhelming. I've not had one person over at the house yet because it feels like someone's garage. Everyone thinks I need to just clean it up, that it should be easy, but I'm going through my mom's stuff. My dead mom's stuff. I added this show to my Netflix queue hoping it would give me some much needed advice. After reading your article, I definitely feel like I made the right choice :)
