New Series of Novellas - The Heroes of the Metaframe War.

I don't know if I've mentioned it before, but I have a nicely percolating idea about a spin off mini-series with Chloe Armitage as the MC in her 'enforcer,' role against the backdrop of the second world war.

[1] Uber Vampire vs Vampire fights - check.
[2] A vile Nazi plot - check.
[3] A child with metaframe sorcery access - check.
[4] A secret faction of high-level Nazis that are aware of the existence of vampires and the metaframe - check
[5] Rogue vampires from the Mekra blood cult - check
[6] The whole world at risk of being drawn into a reality where the Nazis are invincible - check.
[7] A lone warrior (Chloe) who finds that personal commitment can change everything.

I wonder if I could pull these novellas off with Chloe in the first person (except for the prologue - which I'll do in third person as it doesn't have her in it)?

I'm very intrigued by the idea and as my head is firmly in design mode at the moment, it would be straight forward to knock out the design and have two fully designed works to bring out this year.

I've never written a serious story in 1st person, I tend to think the narrating character really needs oodles of charisma and depth to carry it off. I guess I just had to wait until I had a character that had those characteristics.

How I see this working, I flesh out a design for a three book trilogy, all as novellas - hence about 50K words each. Get the first one written and published this year prior to the release of The Crane War.

I can use this to lift my publishing tempo to two books a year, and just do the novellas as ebooks, not paperbacks, as that simplifies the production process.

Also, I can repeat the process with any number of books.

Nick Sounds good to me, first person would be interesting to try.

Graeme Rodaughan Hi Nick, I'm going to experiment with 1st person, but if it doesn't flow, I'll swap back to my familiar territory of 3rd person POV.

Graeme Rodaughan There's been an idea/scene that's been floating around in my imagination for more than a decade, and which inspired my character of Gang Wu.

This story allows me to implement this scene as the prologue. I'm very happy with that.

I also got the 'ending,' of this mini-series last night. It gave me shivers. I noted it down on paper, and then spent this morning fleshing it out in Scrivener (I have a new project set up for this miniseries).

Andrew✌️ This project sounds good, Graeme. So, have you tested this idea and made a decision? It's time to a 1st person story?

Graeme Rodaughan I haven't tested it. I'm designing the story now... I think design will be fleshed out quite quickly as I'm deliberately keeping the narrative focused, and not letting it sprawl.

I'm thinking three short books at approx 45-50K words each. Approx 100 pages each.

Graeme Rodaughan An example of 1st person writing by me is here: https://www.goodreads.com/story/show/...

Andrew✌️ Three independent books, maybe adventures of different characters? Or a single story divided in three parts?

Graeme Rodaughan Hi Andrew, still designing, this first novella may be a stand alone. I'm looking to keep the writing crisp and focused and make sure its a quick potent read that someone could do in a day.

Graeme Rodaughan I did a lot of thinking about this story today as I was walking my dog and I'm thinking that with a tight focus - it will be one book.

J. Gowin Chloe cutting her way through the SS and/or the Thule Society?

message 11: by Graeme (new)

Graeme Rodaughan Kinda - what if Heinrich Himmler was secretly a Metaframe sorcerer and the true power behind the Nazi movement. Add in early experimentation with an analogue to the Day Guard serum, and you've got SS super-soldiers...

message 12: by J. (new)

J. Gowin Rudolf Hess, Reinhard Heydrich, Josef Mengele and Albert Speer were all high ranking Nazis who would have been involved in that sort of thing. It sickens me to know that three of them survived until my lifetime, and two of those three died as free men. Tieing Crane to ODESSA might be useful for getting the Day Guard serum labs to South America. It sounds like it could be very interesting.

Graeme Rodaughan Read a whole book about Speer. Yes. Lots of opportunity to tie stuff together

Graeme Rodaughan This idea is continuing to evolve.
