Twilight by Gerri Brousseau (I wish!)

As many of you may know, the newest movie in the Twilight saga opened in theatres on November 18th.   I must admit that I am among the avid fans.  When I was commuting 4 hours per day on a train to work, I had the opportunity to read … A LOT … and one day, one of my friends handed me a book entitled, "Twilight."  I was hooked.  I had always been intrigued by vampires, but I have to say … I couldn't put it down.  By the end of the week I had read all four books in the series.  When the first movie came out, I knew it wouldn't hold a candle to the book, which it didn't, but being such a fan, I saw it.  The second movie "New Moon" was better.  I read somewhere Twilight did so well, Summit spent more money to film "New Moon."  By the time "Eclipse" rolled around, the Twilight franchise was raking in the bucks.  I read somewhere the movie, Eclipse, made over $450 million.  Just that one movie!  Having heard the newest movie, "Breaking Dawn Part 1" is the best yet, I admit … I was anxious to see it.

Today, like thousands of other rabid fans, I stood in line, pre-ordered ticket in hand, and went to see "Twilight, Breaking Dawn, part 1."  I was not disappointed.  This movie is, by far, the best yet in the series.  If you are among the twihards .. make sure to see this movie.

After having read all the books and seeing all the movies to date, I started then to think about the Harry Potter franchise, which also raked in the mega millions.  I know JK Rowling's story, because she is my greatest idol.  I know she had very meager beginnings.  I started to think about Stephanie Meyer as well.  When these women were writing their novels, I would venture to guess they never in their wildest dreams imagined the amount of success they would gain from their venture.

As JK Rowling sat in her dismal apartment, a single mother trying to scrape out a living and make ends meet, did she ever dream of the possibility of such great success and the wealth it brought with it?  When Stephanie Meyer wrote the words "Chapter One" did she ever imagine the throngs of rabid fans lining up and camping over one week prior to the movie premier?  I'm sure she didn't.

As you are penning your works in progress, are you imagining such success or are you merely hoping your novel would actually see publication?  Do you have dreams of seeing your beloved characters on the big screen, or simply on the screen of a Nook or Kindle?  Or … do you tell your story simply for the love of writing?
