Overwelling new discoveries

How many important events happen each day on the day or to be remembered as part of our history. Today is November 18th and the day in 1820 when Antartica was discovered. Think about it; this is the fifth largest continent and it was unknown until then. It is twice the size of Australia. Why do I write about this, you may ask. I answer that it is a symbol of all the other wordly things that we don't know today. Every day new discoveries are happening. Every day we read about medical, social, geographical, and scientific discoveries. Imagine if you will, how stunned the people of the world on November 18, 1820 were when they learned of a massive continent capped in ice that existed that was previously unknown.

Today through our instant communications we are inundated with new ideas, new discoveries, new social problems, new insights into the cosmos, new political problems, and on and on. We hear so much that we often do not appreciate the magnitude of our discoveries.

So I think we should read, listen, see, and appreciate our opportunity as learners on learning what is new in our world.

While we're examining how we look at the world we live in today, we should balance our lives so that we are not overwelmed. One way to do that is to read. Read fiction. Read nonfiction. Read away from our reality and allow the brain a vacation from the world. If we do that, then we may better appreciate and embrace the many changes in our lives and enjoy.
