My father studied *Horology after he was discharged from service in the US Navy at the end of WW II. He spent his entire life as a watch repairman and jewellery store owner. As a tribute to this nearly dead art form and technology, this post displays a magnificent gallery of photographs by Guido Mocafico showing the intricate inner workings of classic time pieces. The aesthetics of time have never been more artfully captured.

*Horology (from Greek: ὥρα, “hour, time” and Greek: λόγος, logos, “study, speech”; lit. the study of time) is the art or science of measuring time. Clocks, watches, clockwork, sundials, clepsydras, timers, time recorders and marine chronometers are all examples of instruments used to measure time. (Wikipedia)
