I wish I could find the manipulator of this piece. An image search says it’s Gerome’s “The Slave Market,” which it is not. Instead, it seems that someone has photoshopped classical depictions of women into a market scene: the madonna with child, the harlot on her passion-red cloth, the crone, the wastrel, etc. A fantastic statement, artist unknown.


EDIT: It does in fact appear to be a later work by Gerome, a second “Slave Market,” which leads one to ask why the shadows are off and one of the figures is in black and white…


Still, I love that this is an original work and not a manipulation.
