Cause for Concern?

Recently there has been some controversy in regards to authors using pennames, specifically female authors who use male or unisex names when writing gay romance and erotica.  Initially I had planned to stay silent on the subject because in fact I had formed little to no opinion on the matter. I don't care what sex is behind the name of an author. If I enjoy their work, then nothing else matters.  I followed this particular blow-up and at first I couldn't see why people were pissed off and offended. After all, it was only a name, right? But the more I read the more my opinion changed, and while I am not left scarred or hurt or anything remotely like that, I do see where some of the anger has come from.

First, when you apologize for doing something wrong, don't do it halfway. Take responsibility for the action. And I truly believe that this was about much more than gender. In fact, I think gender was the least this was about.

I think the author in question went too far. It's one thing to use a penname; it's another to fabricate a whole other life to make people believe you are in fact something you're not. That leaves a sour taste in my mouth especially when it's been said that this author had made issue with females writing MM in the past. I mean, what was the motive in doing that? This last little bit is what leaves me confused the most. I don't understand it.

Like I stated above, I am not hurt or anything like that. In the end we all have to live with ourselves in regards to everything we do and put out there on this earth. That is divine justice.
