Fearless Female Friday: Was Bess able to Contact Houdini Beyond the Grave?

As part of our continuing Houdini Halloween Countdown, we asked Victoria Kelly, author of Mrs. Houdini, to tell us more about Houdini's death and Bessie's attempts to contact him:

description

Most people don't know that Harry Houdini died on Halloween in 1926. He died in Room 401 at Detroit's Grace Hospital at the age of 52 after being punched in the abdomen under mysterious circumstances. Houdini's last words were reportedly, "I'm tired of fighting." But his wife Bess went on to fight to make contact with his spirit for another ten years--efforts which I chronicle in my historical fiction novel, Mrs. Houdini. Halloween is an important holiday for Houdini fans because every year on the anniversary of Harry's death, Bess held a seance in an attempt to communicate with him. Although Bess stopped hosting these seances in 1936, they have continued since, with this year's Offical Houdini Seance being held at the Jewish Museum of Maryland in Baltimore.

History has it that Bess was never actually able to contact Houdini, but my novel tells a different ending to the story. You'll have to see which one you believe.
