A Fading Smile Lingers

A fading smile lingers
As she’s moving away;
Step by step,
My heart at bay. On the surface are the promise,
Bruised, broken and shattered,
As she makes her way. In my vision blurred with tears,
I can no longer see her;
She’s so far away. And then I give up;
Maybe she can move on,
But I’ve decided to stay. A fading smile lingers
As I embrace our memories;
Maybe in the next life,
I close my eyes and pray.
