Progress on my list of things to do – aka valuable resources list!

How are you all doing today?
I’ve been reviewing my blog posts this past week and found my “list of marching orders” post from earlier in the year. From June, if you are keeping track.
I thought I’d take the opportunity to talk about the list – how my attack of the various topics is coming and at the same time provide you with some links to helpful articles. Find below my original list (in bold) and comments added.
Finding a step by step way to set up marketing – I attacked this topic in my re-do of what used to be a book just talking about book blog tours. In the latest version – called The Author’s Guide to Book Promotions – I talk about a wide variety of promotion vehicles and list hundreds of sites for your reference. I talk a lot about how social media is consumed to help you understand what makes a good method of promo and what makes a not so good method. At $3.99 for over 300 pages of information, I think it’s a good deal!
Networking – I’ve decided this would make a good book and have started the research. Look for a new release later in the year as this one will be a lot of work, I think. Maybe this will be my NaNoWriMo book for this year.
How to build an effective author platform without spending thousands and getting overwhelmed. I have done this to a large degree in my book called The Author’s On-Line Presence. I’ve also released a workbook version of The Author’s On-Line Presence. The book that I’m in the middle on the subject of Networking will continue the discussion at a more advance level than what is in the current book.
Building a simple website. This is on the list of things to do. WordPress is coming out with a major update shortly that is supposed to significantly change the way the platform looks. I’m waiting until after that update goes through to deal with this. For now, I’m in the final steps of creating a WordPress.com course as that platform has switched over and will be stable for a while going forward. Stay tuned for an announcement!
What to do once the book is ready for publishing. I’ve created a book on self-publishing from a Canadian point of view that is available for purchase. It is packed with information! I’ve also created a version that is more appropriate to all countries than the one I’ve created for Canada. It can be found for sale on Amazon.
Publishing A – Z – same answer as above.
Best program to write on – still on the list
What is going wide and is it worth it – this information is included in the self-publishing book mentioned above.
Learning to format – my preference for formatting is Vellum. I’ve demonstrated how easy a program it is to use in this post. I’ve also talked quite a bit about formatting in my self-publishing book. And…stay tuned for more videos on various formatting programs.
Marketing – getting reviews – although my book, The Author’s Guide to Working with Book Bloggers addresses this topic in what I think is a no-nonsense way, I have noticed quite a few books and a couple of courses that advertise a “fast and easy” way to get reviews. I’m also working on a general book review book – stay tuned for details.
Blurbs – still on the list
List building – I frequently post about communicating with readers via a newsletter. See my blog posts here, here, here and here. I’ve also written extensively on this subject in my book The Complete Mailing List Toolkit.
Time Management – This is also a topic that I write on frequently and will continue to do so. Three of my most popular posts on the topic of time management can be found here, here and here
Learning how to use social media better – I’ve done some work on this, but stay tuned for more information
Teach people how to be virtual author assistants with an emphasis on social media and customer service – still on the list
