Week 2 at Hanover
I have started to write this blog and possibly a book about coaching on more than one occasion, but this time seems like the right moment to really do it. Its starting out to be a book about coaches and coaching. Not the coaches whose names everyone knows, those guys and girls who coach in DI in the big power conferences who have the million dollar contracs and TV and shoes deals. This book is about the other 95% of coaches, those of us on the lower levels of college sports as well as a bit about high school coaching. But it also is about a someone suddenly turning 60 and wondering where all the years went. And its going to be about not only athletics but also education, popular music, road food, friendships and families, and how idiots are finding out about the few too many great places we have left in America.Topics I want to cover...Why high school teaching/coaching has become a shitty jobDIII facilities vs. DI facilities5 hr practices for coachesBus rides to far away statesRoad rulesDIII three to four to a room on the roadGolden Corrals: Hanshaws story about three times on one road tripPaper work: medical, academic, financial, etcPractice/facilities overlap24/48 hour rulesnow rule about if you hear of an off campus party, you must report itconcussionsgender equalitywhy did the NCAC accept Wabash, an all boys school?Coaching girls, every real male coach should do itNAIA/NCAA differencesFully funded scholarshipsWhen we beat St. John Fisher, and the JV game the next day at Wright State
