The Mystery of Amazon Reviews

Book ReviewI’ve started the year with 116 reviews for Murder In Absentia (and, I think, there were about 3-4 reviews that have been removed over the years). By now, the number of reviews is up to… … 110!

This isn’t going to be a whinging post, just a reflection of what (I think) is happening, and how that changes my approach to marketing and to launching new books.

Tony Duxbury The mystery continues. It is not so much as a 'Who done it?' , but 'Why did they do it?' We know the culprit's name is Amazon, but he/she/ it, has never been brought to justice.

"Justice", as I've learned the hard way, is a very fluid term. Amazon is in the business of making the most money for Amazon. So far their strategies enabled them to control the market - and it will take someone with a stupendously better product to unseat them from that position.

But, and that's the important point, what's best for Amazon (making money) can also mean it's best for you (making money). Just need to learn to play by their rules. After all, if you help them make money they will do the same in turn. It's not a zero sum game.

As for reviews, cleaning up their platform from fake reviews is helpful for everybody. The occasional legit review caught in the crossfire is not worth your tears.
