It's strange when you think back. I had recently been asked how I decided I wanted to write. I gave them the answer that it all started with one book.
The book that inspired me was The Sword of Shannara by Terry Brooks. I read it in middle school and instantly loved the world of fantasy. I wrote so many, now lost, stories of monsters, dragons, and the humans who tried to traverse and survive the world.
My own writing has moved into contemporary, horror, and scifi. Currently, I am back in a fantasy world. It's dark, grim, and our heroes have been thrust into it against their will.
I use to think that you had to write novels to be a success. The true success is in you. It's the feeling of accomplishment. It's seeing someone's eyes light up when they get an advance or beta copy of your story to read. It's knowing that you have started and accomplished a goal.
That is all. Back to work. Thank you.
