James Baldwin's Only Children's Book Gets Revived

'Aisha Karefa-Smart, author and niece of literary icon James Baldwin, discusses the republishing of Baldwin’s only children's book Little Man, Little Man (Duke University Press) and why it remains a critical piece of the Baldwin cannon more than 40 years later.  Karefa-Smart's mother was Baldwin’s sister, Baldwin’s personal assistant and current executor of Baldwin’s estate. The book is inspired by Aisha and her brother Tejan Karefa-Smart who grew up with Baldwin. They lived in a house he bought in the Upper West Side. Aisha was instrumental in getting the reprint off the ground.' -- The Takeaway
