TheRose My husband and I just finished watching the newer version a couple of nights ago (hubby's a closet Austen fan - shhh!). We still like the older one better (although the 2nd Wentworth is much more handsome!) because it goes deeper into the spirit of the book and captures its wit and intelligence as well as the romance. We thought the newer movie paid too much attention to mere sentiment.

So sorry about the belated reply--yours came in shortly after I moved, and I am just now beginning to catch up on emails! I also like the older Persuasion adaptation more, though I think both Wentworths are gorgeous. And it is pretty near impossible to do justice to that book in 90 minutes, which is the length of the newer one (not to mention the minute or so that was cut out from the American version, and in something that short every second makes a difference).
