I started drafting a potential new project today. I’ve been planning it on and off over the past few years—first never quite getting it right, then throwing myself into research to make sure I DID get it right. But today, I finally pushed myself past “Maybe just a few more weeks of research” and into that terrifying realm of actually putting words on paper, life to these characters, and momentum to this plot.

My creative well has been unreliable the past few years. Each new project leaves me terrified that I’ll have to fight uphill through that exhausted drought feeling again. I’ve been trying to give myself as much time and space as possible to refill, hoping that I’d have that creative CLICK with a project again. The giddiness even when it sucks, the delight at every terrible word, the can’t-fall-asleep because I want to hang out in this world.
