Book Review – Instruments of War

I was asked to read and review a book on Good Reads.  The opinions are all my own.

Instruments of War by John Briggs

In the vein of Heinlein’s Starship Troopers, humans are fighting a losing battle against the Jaari. In a desperate attempt to hold ground, the derelicts and scum of Earth’s prisons are surgically fused with weapons systems and advanced shielding and turned into a last, lethal hope of humanity against the invading species. The story follows Joachim Lafontaine from disgraced starship captain to ‘zed. But will they be enough to stem the carnage and stop the Jaari? A gripping story with good pace and structure. The surgically altered humans are not encouraged to respond to their former names or form attachments, but still pockets of their humanity remain making character development interesting.

I rate it a 4.6 out of 5
