July 5: Happiness is seeing our future in the classroom

It’s no secret that my happiest days are those in the classroom working with young people and helping them delve into their creativity. Today was one of those days.

I spent the day with talented young Murri girls from Charters Towers, Mt Isa and Townsville who chose to spend some of their school holidays doing a creative writing workshop with me. We created characters and settings, brainstormed concepts of Indigenous Australia and they performed their own skits around the this year’s NAIDOC them #BecauseOfHerWeCan

Today I was filled with hope for their futures, and for mine, because these young people are smart, talented and hard working, and they will fill key roles in society one day. I am sure of it.
