I'd choose #2 because this is a wartime story, and I'm assuming she's missing her man and having to do for herself while he's gone. #1 looks like a DIY advertisement rather than a story, although it would be improved by the addition of a child's toy to suggest she has extra responsibilities beyond home repair and upkeep. It also suggests something possibly humorous, if that's the tone you're going for here. #1 doesn't do anything for me.

Then maybe she's thinking about all she'll miss while she's deployed. And also what she values that she's trying to protect by being a soldier.
