[image error]Heart Song is a well-written teen science fiction novel about space colonization. The protagonist is a thirteen-year-old orphan girl who is part of a space colonization program to build the first base on a planet outside our solar system. The action starts in the first chapter in which things go wrong, and she ends up the only human survivor among a race of aliens.
The story is not a fast action thriller, but you are compelled to keep reading to learn more about both the aliens and what will happen next to the protagonist, Hope. The author builds an intriguing alien culture full of rich details and fun quirks. She describes the food, language, technology in such a way that you never get bored. If you like Star Trek, you might like this book too.
This novel would be a fun read for people of all ages, but it is clean and fun for teens which is why I describe it for that age. It is a relaxing book that does have a satisfying ending, but there is plenty to explore in the greater world politically and for the future for Hope for an easy sequel.
