Day 15: Taking on The World Together #everydayadventure
I saw the stars above Marseille. It was too late last night, but this morning we went out at 4:30 a.m. and the sky was deep and dark, pin-pricked by silver stars.
Early mornings like this, when the world is still caught in the quiet and darkness of night, I am reminded of when we’d get up at 3 a.m. to drive through empty Lima streets to the airport.
Over the next hour, the sun crept into the sky, shifting the darker hues to paler shades. But the chill remained, as cool wind whipped around us most of the morning and early afternoon.
Around 6 p.m., Julia and I took the metro from Castellane to Vieux Port. We stopped under the huge [image error]mirror by the water to take pictures.

Vieux Port continues to hold its charm, even with the increasing crowd of tourists. Julia and I strolled along the line of boats tied up at the port.
After passing half a dozen bars, we found a “drugstore” that was mostly filled with souvenirs. We briefly stepped into the Musee du Savon de Marseille, the museum of soap from Marseille. The museum was closing by the time we got there, so we turned back and walked around the other side of the port.
In Marseille this weekend there is a Formula 1 race. We checked it out, saw some of the cars, then weaved our way back out of the crowded space. We took the metro back to our hotel, and then walked around the corner to the kebab place I went to yesterday.
This time, I ordered “cordon bleu” kebab. I wanted to try something new, without going too crazy. A few hours before, I’d picked out something that looked like deep-fried chicken from the street Asian food stand at the market. [image error]
Halfway through it, I realized that I wasn’t eating chicken or meat, but deep-friend cauliflower! It was interesting.
But the kebab was amazing, as always. Julia and I took our sandwiches back to our room to eat our 8 p.m. dinner and ate while listening to Ben Rector’s new album: Magic.
I liked the chorus of his song Kids.
“We were kids back then, Thinkin’ we would live forever
We were kids back then (you and me)
We were wild and free, takin’ on the world together
We were kids back then
That’s how we’re always gonna be”
Today was a long day, but a good one, and I enjoyed adventuring with my friends and taking on the world with them next to me.
