Conjuring Horrors
Merry meet all,
I watched Conjuring 2 last night. I own the first The Conjuring movie on dvd. I do believe the second movie is scarier. I screamed and I didn’t scream once in the first movie. The sequel is far scarier. It takes a lot to scare me. The sequel is better and I felt more genuine empathy for what the family suffered. It shared the same plot line as the other movie. A family is terrorized by a demon nun and it is up to Ed and Lorraine Warren to save the day. This is one rare time when the second movie is better than the first one.
I haven’t seen the Annabelle movies that follow after it because I don’t have the nerve. I saw one trailer and that was enough for me. I have always had a limit on what I will watch and what I won’t. I also am skeptical of what I watch on Youtube. I mean seriously they are sometimes obviously so fake. I am not sure if I am anyone to judge but I can decide for myself what is genuine and what is fake. I just watched a series of videos on Youtube about pets that seem to have sensed ghosts. It is hard to say by a video because it could be all staged.
That is why it is important to be objective of videos. I never watched the Ghost Adventures movie because I found it all hard to believe. I never saw the Paranormal movies either. I find some things just so obviously fake that I wonder how people can even make those movies and videos. I also never saw the second Poltergeist movie because it would never be as good as the first movie. The first movie is the best in my humble opinion. I saw the trailer for the second movie of Poltergeist and was not in the least interested in seeing it. Plus the first movie represents the time and the mainstream materialism of the time and the quality of the movie can’t be beat.
I had one thing to criticize about The Conjuring. When all the framed family photos fall off the wall, it should have woken the whole family. Only the mother is disturbed by the falling pictures and the commotion of them falling. I think that would have woken me if I heard that. The hands clapping behind the mother trapped in the basement was a frightening moment. The exorcism at the end makes me squirm. I like that the movie was set in the 70s. It was perfect and the story is gripping to the end. I found out on IMDB that Lily Taylor who plays the Mom, researched The Exorcist (of which I have only seen 15 minutes of) for the role. The Conjuring made $41 million on its opening weekend.
The Conjuring had a great soundtrack. The movie also has a dark tone, shadows and the scares have real meaning. The scares are there for a reason. The movie messes with you psychologically not physically. The movie is visceral and tense from beginning to end. I think that The Conjuring is a great horror movie. I do find the exorcism scene at the end way too hard to watch. But this movie takes time to make you care about the characters so when the horrible events happen, you are already caring about the Warrens and the Perrons and want them to survive. The heavy knockings, the ominous growling and the hands clapping in the basement are hard to forget. I hope The Conjuring becomes a horror classic like its predecessors of the 70s, such as Amityville, The Exorcist, The Haunting, and Rosemary’s Baby.
Let me know what you think!!
Blessings, Spiderwitch
