Publishers fear the story is too dark, unsettling, and unsuitable for a lot of readers. Unfortunately, it is making them very nervous.
Lame! Unsettling is a good thing. Hope to see it soon!

It's incredibly frustrating, but publishers are hiring "sensitivity readers" now to cut down on anything readers might perceive as "offensive content". In this day and age, "unsettling" is risky to them. And I don't feel like writing PG-13 versions of my novels...
I hope you get to read it much sooner than later!
