The Missing Rainbow

One life is all we have and we live it as we believe in living it. But to sacrifice what you are and to live without belief, that is a fate more terrible than dying.

Richard was sure that something terrible had happened. He couldn’t explain the whole mess, but still couldn’t do anything to change the dramatic situation.
He rolled his eyes and laughed in a vain effort to get past his agony, but he knew that this was not enough to help him get away from the upcoming tragedy.
Once more, the helpless young man pulled his golden hair away from his pale face and tried to make out where he was. He could see nothing but huge mountains of water raining upon his body. Despite the danger, he managed to remain calm for a few minutes. He was still confused.
When he realized the critical moments were waning and the danger of being lost in the bottom of the ocean was very real, he acted like a little boy who had lost his family in the huge mall during a Saturday walk.
“Somebody, please help me,” he shouted again.
Richard looked around and shook his head; he was in desperate need of some help and was trying to abstain from panic while struggling to keep the balance in his lost and frightened soul. There was no one near his side to make him eager to fight; he had none to assure him he would get past the nasty experience.
In a flash, the past haunted his present condition. A few minutes earlier, he was somewhere else, he was supposed to have some fun and joy in paradise. Richard had arranged to visit a beautiful coastal area along with his beloved partner where there were also supposed to be countless other people playing with the water and enjoying themselves on the beach. Now, they were all gone.
Richard realized there were no swimmers or surfers around him, making noise and getting on his nerves. He really missed the crowd.
Before long, the black clouds of an absurd fate covered the sky and hid the daylight, making things worse. Richard felt like the loneliest and most frightened person on the planet. The rain was the last thing he needed. He screamed again but received no response. Richard swept the water away and turned toward the sea where the dark color of the water made him chilly and lose his breath.
Surprisingly, he fought back tears and kept thinking that it was just another bad day. He wanted to believe everything would change and soon his life would become the same boring as usual.
The red sea mattress was the only thing he had taken with him. He felt so lucky that he could lay his body on a piece of plastic rather than being totally exposed in the ocean. The plastic bed had become the best equipment he could have had through the whole adventure.
The following minutes, he recalled the first moments of his venture and felt so nice. He left his memories take over while covering his worst thoughts. The cheery memories worked as a drug where he could rest his mind in peace for a while, although he knew he was dealing with the power of nature and kept fighting against everything.
As time passed by, Richard lost his courage and came face-to-face with the brutal reality…
