I need to read more YA fantasy books like TQR! Are there any books you’d recommend that readers might like if they read TQR and loved it? Thanks!!
So one of my favorite YA Fantasy series of all time is The Books of Pellinor by Alison Croggon. This is a beautiful story about a girl named Maerad who discovers that she is a bard (someone with magical abilities). There are four books in the series, and I love all of them dearly.
Alison, the author, is an Australian poet, so her language and descriptions of her created world are lovely and rich, and Maerad is a heroine that I simply adore. She also has a mentor named Cadvan who I am rather fond of. :)
These books are epic and their style reminds me a lot of Tolkien. It’s like a female led and powered LOTR, with an emphasis on music and language and coming of age.
I think if you enjoyed TQR, you might love these, too. The order of the quartet is THE NAMING, THE RIDDLE, THE CROW, THE SINGING.
I also highly recommend The Shadowfell Trilogy by Juliet Marillier. I LOVE these books so so much. They have a slower pace, but Marillier is such a skilled storytelling and master of characterization. Neryn is the heroine of this saga. She is wise yet cunning, soft hearted yet powerful. I also 100% swoon at the slow burning romance in these books, and the love interest is one of my favorite book boyfriends of all time.
I had massive book hangovers after finishing both of these series. Which is one of the best and worst things ever :)
Hope these recs are helpful, and happy reading!
