There isn't. I'm sure when one will come out Patrick (and all of the book-centric media) will let us know :P

We'll get the book when we get it, Jesus. Let the man live his life, he has children he wants to spend time with, and writing isn't the only thing he does. Just let the man work in his own time. Don't be disrespectful.

Agreed.
For now- we stick to trying out new series and waiting for the perfect 3rd.

Let this woman live hers and get off Pats nuts. Its not disrespectful to ask a question regarding a book series she has invested time and money in. Pat will be ok.

It's disrespectful because literally everyone comments the exact same question on every single thing he posts everywhere. Dude can't even tweet about having a morning coffee without getting harassed about book 3. It's gotten old and it needs to stop.

He should spend his time doing whatever he wants :) He doesn't owe you anything.

go read other books, there are plenty of amazing fantasy series out there, it is not the end of the world!!

Yes, thank you! If we, fans, are tired of seeing those dumb comments everywhere, I can't imagine what it must be like for him. People seem to forget he's a real person and has a life, like... wtf? I just don't understand why they can't let it go.

That interview was one of the main reasons I read NOTW. I took the author at his word and I don't see where he addressed this. I won't start another series from him until it is completely finished, but I am not sure he will even bother to write one. He gets frustrated when people get upset with the lack of book 3, but people get frustrated because he waved this big carrot, yanked it away. Maybe he hated what he wrote and started from scratch, but I don't know that.

Well, then, you can ask about that interview in particular, instead of making the same comment everyone does about book 3. Ask a legitimate question respectfully and he might answer you in the same way. But also consider that that interview is 11 years old, maybe what he said was true at the time. People change a lot in 11 years, and if he had the trilogy all written, maybe he decided to change things, go in a different direction. Or maybe what he meant was that he had them all planned out, but not fully written. Or maybe he was being very optimistic because he was a young new author about to make his debut; maybe he was hopeful.
He is writing the third book, though. And I think people need to consider that writing isn't his only job and that writing is already damn hard without people pushing you to do it faster. People need to consider Pat's mental health as well; if you read his blog, you'll realize how much he suffered while he was writing the second book because he didn't want to let anyone down. So, if he's in good mental health, the book will be much better. Just let him be, let him work in his own time. He is a person, not a writing machine. Just read something else while he writes the third book, it's not that hard. Start other series that are finished, if that's something so important to you.
I'd much rather wait 10 years for a book and have it be flawless, than getting it sooner and having it be just fine. What if the third book had been published and it wasn't up to the standards of the first two books? Wouldn't that be a disappointment to you? Wouldn't you want the third book, the very conclusion of the trilogy, to be perfect and carefully written? You can't rush art.
Sorry that was long. I'm just really tired of these comments because Pat doesn't deserve them.

However, after 11 years I don't really have a problem with people asking for updates or asking him to explain why he said it was done and each book would come out 1 year after the next, especially when he is always posting about doing this project or that project (which is obviously his complete right to live his life as he sees fit) and contradicts himself in interviews all the time about when the book 3 will come out. You take a person at their word and it is natural to be upset when they don't come through. It would have been better if he just said it will be done when it is done. IMO
In his latest interview, he says these 3 books are just the prologue. I love his world (though book 2 fell quite a bit short of book 1 for me - Sex God/Kvothe chapter being truly awful to me), but I won't pick up another part of his series until the next arc of books is out and I would venture a good portion of his fan base will do the same.

Do you have a link for that interview? Because, to be honest, the books being a prologue doesn't make much sense to me. Book 3, Doors of Stone, is the conclusion of Kvothe's story and that is all there will be of it. He has mentioned that he plans on doing other stories of other characters set in the same world, which makes more sense because it's a very wide and rich world that he's created. Maybe by "prologue" he meant that it was just the first series of books set in this world, like an introduction to the world in which other series will take place.
"I won't pick up another part of his series until the next arc of books is out..."
I don't think he's working on any other series besides Kvothe's at the moment. He knows people want the third book, and he wouldn't start another writing project if he hasn't finished that one. If by "another part of his series" you mean future new series he might write after the release of book 3, then I guess it's your right to not want to start new series of his if they aren't finished. I personally think it would be a pity, because you would probably be depriving yourself of amazing reads just because you have to wait a long while for the next one. But, well, to each his own, I guess. Many people (myself included) don't mind waiting a long time if it means we're getting a flawless book.
"However, after 11 years I don't really have a problem with people asking for updates or asking him to explain why he said it was done and each book would come out 1 year after the next, especially when he is always posting about doing this project or that project (which is obviously his complete right to live his life as he sees fit) and contradicts himself in interviews all the time about when the book 3 will come out."
The problem is that people don't ask for updates, they demand them and they make jokes on the whole situation. They're all rude about it. Just read through his replies on Twitter. It's filled with those dumb questions. People demand book 3 on every single one of his tweets, even when he tweets about his children. It's annoying and it's gotten old at this point.
As for contradicting himself, aside from the interview from 11 years ago that you shared on the other comment, I have never read Pat giving an estimated date for the release of book 3. Not in recent years, at least. These days he does basically say that it will be done when it is done. He's not pushing himself to publish it faster like he did with book 2.

He already wrote another book about Auri. :) Lest we forget.
To each their own as far as reading habit, but in general I now wait until the series finale is right about to come out. Love Brandon Mull (sucker for good YA) and I always wait until the last book in the series comes out and he pumps them out pretty fast. I just need to do that to keep all the story together in my head.
And you are right that it seems he has learned from past mistakes and does not give timetables anymore. But he did throw out dates for several years and I think that is where a lot of the bitterness comes from.
And I can't figure out the guy honestly. Early on, he seemed like a very cool dude. But he almost seems like he has become bitter like GRRM. Hope not.

I think it was fairly obvious from the beginning that Kvothe's story isn't the only big story in this world. If there's anything I learned from the 10th Anniversary Edition of NOTW, is that there's plenty of history from before Kvothe's time. So there will obviously be more history after.
As for Pat being bitter, I think it's understandable, given the state of the USA right now and how seriously he takes politics. I don't think he's bitter, though. I think he's worried about his country and tired because he works and travels a lot. That's why he doesn't need all that crap from his fans. People need to be more understanding and kind.

It's disrespectfu..."
Hm... I wonder why that would be! You're just playing King's Guard so you think you can be near his majesty, if only in words...
There won't be a third book. He had a lector for book 1. That's why it was so great. Book 2 didn't see a single lector and therefore was abysmal compared to the first. Why do you think Pat is squeezing the franchise for every penny that it's worth? Having a ginormous beard doesn't protect you from the spirit of capitalism...

It's disrespectfu..."
If he gets harassed about it it’s because he’s not saying a word about it. He is the one being disrespectful to his readers.
When you start a project and people invest in it, you have the responsibility to finish it. Period. He should had created that book and kept it to himself then if he was not gonna commit to finishing it.
The least he could do is say something about the book so people know what’s going on.

Not saying anything about book 3 doesn't give anyone the right to harass him. He's entitled to his own privacy and sharing random updates on his work whenever, or if, he wants. He doesn't owe anyone anything, not even his fans. We'll get the book when we get it, simple as that. Harassing him with demands on book 3 won't change a damn thing, so why not be nice and polite about it? Is it so hard to be respectful?

He doesn't owe anyone anything "
What if he wrote his books and nobody read them? Would he be a writer? No.
So maybe, just maybe he owes his readers a little consideration. We, the readers bought his books, loved them and became loyal to him because we invested time, money and emotions on his work. So when people get upset, and ask him (for years now) what about your work, the one that you said you were going to finish? and he doesn't even care to say ONE word about it... I think that is disrespectful. He KNOWS people have been asking for years. It would take him less than 1 minute to say something. And he chooses not to. That is just not caring for his readers.

Yes! Thank you for explaining it so well. We're all eager for book 3, but Pat is a person and he deserves respect. Not giving updates on book 3 doesn't mean he doesn't care about his readers. He cares deeply about his fans. All these projects, like the card deck or the tak board, are all projects funded by the fans because it's cool stuff that we all want because we're all a bunch of geeks. He pays attention to what the fans want (just look at the 10th Anniversary Edition of NOTW; it's any fan's dream) and he works hard on that stuff because he doesn't want to disappoint anyone or waste anyone's money. He's literally working on things that the fans wanted and paid for.
Plus, even if Pat did decide to give us an update, no one would be satisfied. That is probably why he hasn't said anything. Because a tiny update won't be enough for most people and they'll just keep being rude about it. I can even imagine the replies he'd get: "If that's all you were gonna say, why did you wait 8 years to say it?" "We waited 8 years just for this shitty update?" "Cool story bro, where's book 3?".
I get that you want the book, we all do, but that's no excuse to harass someone who has plenty of other things to do than satisfying his fans' every whim. Yes, he owes his success to the people who bought and read his books, but that doesn't mean he works for you. And not giving updates doesn't mean he doesn't care about them or that he's being disrespectful to them. If he wants to be private about it, he has the right to. An update doesn't change anything. It won't make the book come faster. So wouldn't you rather be a decent person instead of a bully? Why is it so hard to let this go and just wait for the book without making rude comments about it?

Well said Paula, although fanboys and girls will not understand this. It is mind boggling that presumably educated individuals cannot understand that as much as Pat has a right to do what he wants to do, so too do the people who have invested time and money into his books (helping to make him very wealthy, which ironically allows him to pursue what he likes) this includes of course asking questions. People confuse what they don’t like, or is not ideal from one person’s perspective, with harrassment or disrespect, its a sign of our times unfortunatley.
Ridiculous comments about questions aside. Actual abuse i.e threatening, making harsh comments about his personality etc are obviously unnacceptable (nobody appears to have done that here). I say that as it has been used as a strawman repeatedly in comments directed at ppl who ask non-abusive questions (maybe the first time those individuals have ever asked Pat a question like that).
Personally I choose not to ask Pat questions. I hope book 3 comes out but in the meantime I will just wait. Although I will never read anything of his again before all elements have been released. He is too good a writer to abandon completely imo.

Writing is the only thing he *doesn't* do, unless you count the book reviews and updates about ridiculous paraphernalia around his books. Look guys, a limited edition signed copy of the plum-bob recipe.
I fell in love with the books, and desperately want a third book to come out. I don't know what he is holding out for, as I had read in the past that he had already finished the book and was polishing. It makes me think he isn't pleased with the book and that is fine. An update or something would be better than radio silence and 'look a plum-bob'. If you have writers block or something just say. The pressure to follow up two great books with a third worthy of the first two must be immense. Perhaps look at the fan theories out there, because some of these are not only awesome but also open up so many options for future directions for the series.
