Welcome to another Sunday with Weekend Writing Warriors . Meet writers in various genres and read 8-10 sentence snippets of their stories. Find a new author and sample their work. Enjoy!
I took a break last weekend, but I'm back today with another snippet from Rishalt, Book 2 of Taxyon Space.
Blurb
Following the conventions of Warrish society, Kiron’s parents have betrothed him and his brother to young women of superior rank. Unfortunately, Kiron would prefer the “primitive Earther” Nikki. He was given three days to reflect. You can read the snippet from two weeks ago – https://auroraspringer.blogspot.com/2018/04/forget-that-primitive-earther-snippet.html
I have skipped to the next chapter so you can learn the outcome of Kiron’s three days of reflection. The snippet has been edited to fit, mostly by inserting semicolons.
On the third planet of a distant solar system, Kiron stood within a stockade of tall metal posts, and stared at the expanse of green ocean. His triad of guards had left him alone in the bleak enclosure on the wilderness planet, Obelle. During the past half year, he had spent intervals locked in a cell without a triad or anyone else; the judges often deemed it the severest penalty for disobedience, but he had become inured to solitude, and had learned to take comfort in his own company. Life alone was preferable to being forced into another triad and unwanted union. He thought of his Earther lover, the marine biologist, Dr. Nikki Bell; she must have been devastated when he did not appear with the Warrish delegation. He had been summoned to Rishalth, not in disgrace, but to what his family deemed an honor and a promising future. He had obeyed, not eagerly, rather in hope of reconciliation and perhaps, their acknowledgement of his worth. Instead, his hexath of parents had insisted he comply with their scheme; they had sent him into exile as punishment when he pleaded for time. Overwhelmed with emotion, he dropped onto his knees and buried his head in his arms; how could he persuade his family to release him from this unwanted match and allow him to return to Nikki on Europa? He had no solution, except to endure his exile for the present.
