What I’m Reading – David Gemmell

Sword in the Storm – David Gemmell.

You may not know that it was David Gemmell who inspired me to write fantasy. His books are fast paced and full of humour, humanity and realistic characters.

When I started to draft my latest book; a novella based on the Shiloh Priestess Order in the Covenant of Grace Series, I wanted to change the setting to a more celtic world. I did some research into the origin of the Celtic people and discovered just what I needed to use in my coming mini series. Once I decided to focus on the Celtic history of magic and folklore I thought I needed some inspirational reading.  That’s where David Gemmell’s books once again came to mind; in particular his Rigante series which is based in Celtic culture.

I am so sad over the literary industries loss with the passing David Gemmell. I honestly believe he was one of the greatest heroic fantasy writers and have yet to find anyone who can hold a candle to his unique style.

I am working my way through the entire series (now on to book two pictured below). It’s been so long since I read it, I have forgotten so much about the fast and deep plots he wrote.

If you would like to join me in reading this series, you can buy David Gemmell’s books online here.
