Spring

I wanted to share pictures of my magnolia tree with you today but realized there is no way to add photos to the blog. Oh, well, you can always check out https://www.facebook.com/AvenueAntiques and look for #MagnoliaProject or check out Betababe on Twitter.

Why magnolias? Because--SPRING! which is arriving about a month later than usual. I always look for forsythia as one of the earlier blooming bushes and where I live (east coast) they are just beginning to shine forth. And the fruit trees (although D.C.'s cherry blossoms seemed to peak mid-snowstorms last month) are becoming lacy. But my Grande Dame Magnolia is now in full bridal regalia--and being pummeled by yet another cold front with its screaming 20 mph winds and violent downpours of rain (well, at least not snow this time).

But, to use my husband's favorite "me, whining? never!" phrase, I'm not complaining! I am pleased for our newly planted trees that we got a good soaking rain (yeah, could have done without the nasty stuff, but still . . .) and thrilled Mother Nature played nice (sort of) this year and didn't send a week of mid-summer 80s followed by sub-arctic temperatures uncommon for these parts (and repeat, TWICE!) as she did last year, blighting my beauty like Miss Cavendish. (Literary reference for literary blog--but feel free to ask if you can't remember high school lit.)
