In the past two weeks I met up with friends and family in Kuala Lumpur. I have not seen them for years, ever since my husband fell ill in 2009/2010. He died in 2014, and although I continued to write and had published two more novels, A Flash of Water and more recently, Where the Sunrise is Red, I have not been active at all in meeting people. I was very touched that I am still remembered.
Writing had provided me solace. I wish my books to provide insight to the checkered history of my country of birth and the diverse culture that it embraces. Writing takes me back to yesterday years. As one reviewer says of Where the Sunrise is Red, .... "much of the action takes place in mainland Malaya and what is described feels not so much well researched as lived through."
