The Trobairises

My current reading pile for my new non fiction book. I’m thinking about the trobairises – the women poets who were female troubadours. We know hardly anything about them as individuals, but we do have some of their poems. Are they writing love poetry to a man? Is it stylised poetry to the lady of the castle? Or is it lesbian love poetry? Whatever the inspiration it is complex, beautiful poetry originating from 12th century Aquitaine and spreading through every European culture.
